BIRD WATCHING
Although nearly 300 bird species have been registered in the Azores, surprisingly, only 29 are known to breed within the region. More information can be found in ‘Birds of the Atlantic Islands’ by Tony Clarke.
The area surrounding our guest houses at Fonte do Rego is home to most of the land species. The Common buzzard Buteo buteo can frequently be heard overhead and Long-eared owl Asio otus is often seen to fly over the houses during the evening twilight. Grey wagtails like to frequent the stream that runs alongside the houses.
